JAB's Rockworm

Materials:

Hook:  Daiichi 1120 (or any curved nymph hook), sizes 12-18
Bead:  Brite Bead (3.2MM) (or choice)
Thread:  8/0 black
Body:  Benicchi iridescent thread, peacock coated with Clear Cure Goo Hydro
Thorax/Head:  Peacock herl and Ice Dubbing, black peacock

Step 1:

Pinch barb.  Place bead on hook and secure in vise.

Step 2:

Start iridescent thread behind eye.

Build a tapered body.  Winding the thread to the bend twice (down and back to the bead) is sufficient. Secure iridescent behind bead by a  whip finish.

Step 3:

Apply a coat of Clear Cure Goo Hydro and cure with UV light.  If tapered body is thin, apply a second coat.

Step 4:

Start tying thread behind eye and wind to approximately the hook point.

Step 5:

Tie in two peacock herls.

Step 5A:

Spread peacock herl apart and apply a very small amount of dubbing to the bottom herl.

Step 5B:

Trap dubbing between the two strands of peacock herl and draw herl down.  Collect thread and combine with herl.  Spin the combination together to form a chenille.  Do not over over tighten.

Step 5C:

Wind a few turns forward to behind bead.  Whip finish and cut thread.  You fly should look similar to the picture.

Step 6:

Pick dubbing out.  Longer fibers should be removed by pinching them between thumb and index finger and lifting them away from the fly.  Brush fibers to the rear.  Ready to fish!

Enjoy!
