Notes:
(1) SHS is an acronym for Sulky Holoshimmer. "Holo," as you might have guessed, has the holographic appearance and light reflective qualities. Sulky has several products useful to fly tiers and can be found in most reputable notions department stores. This stuff is very tough despite it's thinness. Some fly shops are starting to carry Sulky products.
(2) It is hard to beat the color red- especially on longer shank hooks where fish may take the pattern for either a larva, pupa or small aquatic worm. Other colors of Holoshimmer which have proven productive for me are light copper, Christmas red, lime green, cranberry and pine green.
(3) Wider gape hooks provides more "bite area" and more fish in the net. The Daiichi 1260 is my choice and comes in sizes down to 20.
(4) Keep body as thin as possible. Wraps should be as close to side-by-side as your eyes allow. Any overlapping will create unevenness and thicker bodies.
(5) Makes phenomenal ribbing on other patterns. Well worth the affordable investment for 250-yard per spool/color.
(6) Sulky of America's Holoshimmer can be found HERE.
