My home tailwater is chock full of midges and baetis nymphs in color ranges light olive to dark brown. It only made sense to devise a pattern that was representitive, or at least close enough, of both morsels that keep the fish fat and happy.
JAB's Crossover is tied with white Danville's Spiderweb (30 denier - 16/0) thread. This allows me to get the color ranges needed for various waters utilizing Sharpie, Copic or Pantone indelible ink pens.
Spiderweb lays flat and will tie even the smallest of flies. My old eyes stop at size 22 these days..
Tying Notes
1. For cream or light colors of Crossovers I would wrap an extra layer of thread for the body to keep the hook color from bleeding through when wet. Additionally the thorax is tied with Buggy Nymph Dubbing in hare's hare vice the dark hare's ear.
2. The chartreuse ribbing remains regardless of the body color.
3. Black is a great color and may represent some of the clinger nymphs in your waters. Swap out dark hare's hare's ear color for black Buggy Nymph Dubbing.
