Upper Sacramento River 5/3/18

No comments:
Wonderful day on the legendary Upper Sacramento River!  The weather and river were perfect for early May.

I didn't find any of the big wild fish, despite hitting various spots covering some 25-miles, the action stayed steady for the youngsters.

Easy Dub Caddis Larva

No comments:
Materials

Hook:  Fulling Mill Czech Nymph, Size 12
Weight:  Two layers of lead tape
Thread:  UTC 70, Dark Brown
Shellback:  Baby Bug Back, Clear.  Apply two coats of thin UV resin over the shellback
Ribbing:  Monofilament tying thread, Fine (or 4# mono)
Body:  Easy Dub, Light Olive
Thorax:  Hend's Spectra Dubbing,  Dark Brown #335

Notes

1.  I wish Easy Dub came in more caddis larva colors!
2.  Use lead tape to build some weight into the fly as well as the initial taper.
3.  I've added a mottled effect to the body by using a brown indelible pen over the first coat of UV resin.  A second coat of resin adds more depth and give a very life like appearance to the pattern.
4.  The Easy Dub Caddis Larva is a winner anywhere free living larva craw across the rocks!
